"Hi, I'm Allison, and I'm going to show you a few of the basic stitches when knitting. The first we'll do is the knit stitch. Place your right needle through the front of the loop. On the left needle wrap the yarn around, pull the new stitch through, and pull the old stitch off the end of the needle. Note that the yarn is in the back for the knit stitch. So the knit stitch; you will go through the front of the loop, wrap the yarn, pull the right needle through the loop, and pull the old loop off the left-hand needle. For a purl stitch move your yarn to the front of both needles. Insert the right needle through the front of the loop on the left needle. Wrap the yarn around the needle. Pull it through the loop on the left needle, and then pull the old stitch off the left needle. And again, the right needle through the loop, wrap, pull through, and pull the old stitch off. Now, to knit two stitches together; this would be done to do a decrease for a hat for example, put the yarn to the back and knit through two stitches instead of one, through the front of the loops, wrap, pull through, and then pull the two stitches off the left needle. And you have now created one stitch from two. Again, knit through the loops, the front loops of both stitches, wrap, pull through, and pull off the left-hand needle. To do a decrease with purls bring your yarn forward. We're going to purl two together. Your right needle goes through both loops, wrap. Pull the needle through the old stitches and off the left-hand needle. You have created one purl stitch from two. And to repeat, through the front loops, wrap, pull through, and pull off the left-hand needle."
