"Hi I'm Damon Thompson I've been a landlord for over ten years and I have five multi unit buildings. This is how to get a home equity loan on the house you are renting out. The first thing you need to do is make sure you have enough equity in your house. When you are doing a home loan the home you live in traditionally lenders will allow you to borrow up to a hundred percent of the equity in the home. Rental properties are a little different. You need to, most lenders require that you leave at least twenty percent equity in the house. So you want to make sure that the equity is there. And you have that twenty percent padding there. The second thing you need to do is pull your credit report. Go to one of the credit reporting agencies online, get your copy of your credit report. You need to look over it, you need to see what your credit score is, you need to see if there any negative things on your credit report that would hinder you on getting a loan. Clear those up if you can. Have explanation from whatever but you need to make sure you pull your credit report so you have a clear idea of where your credit score is and where you will fall in the loan process. The next thing you need to do is review the type of loan and the terms you want to make sure that the loan and terms are affordable for you based on your rental property and the income you have coming in from that property. And you want to make sure that you shop around for the best deals. You can check on the internet, check commercials that come on television. Call on friends and family see if they've applied for any types of loans and what types of rates they got. You want to check around do your homework, shop around that way you can get the best deals for the type of home equity loan you are looking for. I'm Damon Thompson and that's how to get a home equity loan for the house you are renting out."
