"Hi I'm Doctor Savage, I'm here to discuss how to prevent toxic shock syndrome. Before I actually tell you exactly how to prevent it let me briefly describe how toxic shock syndrome happens. There are a few different types of bacteria that secrete toxins. When you are infected or you actually have a foreign body that has this bacteria that secretes these toxins which eventually cause the toxic shock syndrome, the different ways in which these bacterias you know transmit this toxin to you are infections, include but not limited to infections of the throat, skin infections and infections or foreign bodies of the vagina. This TSS as it's known in abbreviation, first became known in the media and in general population back in the nineteen eighties when the super absorbent tampons were harboring these bacteria and women were getting toxic shock syndrome. Now this is a potentially life threatening condition. And in order to prevent toxic shock syndrome, well first of all if there's ever a question seek medical attention immediately. To start with the throat if you think you might have a throat infection, sometimes antibiotics you know for a bacterial pharyngitis or other types of throat infections could be beneficial. If you have a skin infection take up most care of that skin infection if it seems to be progressing, again seek medical attention for further treatment. In regarding toxic shock syndrome contracted from the vagina, frequently remove used tampons and other foreign objects in there such as, contraceptive sponges, and any other object that could potentially harbor the bacteria. I'm confident this has been helpful, I'm Doctor Savage and here's to your health."
