"Hi I'm Doctor Savage I'm here to discuss how toxic shock syndrome is spread. First toxic shock syndrome happens because of either an infection or foreign body with bacteria occurs either in the throat, in the skin, or for females in the vagina. These certain bacteria secrete toxins, one of the most commonly known toxic shock syndrome toxin causes a body wide inflammatory response. In which this, these what is called cytokines which cause diffuse inflammation causes leaking of the fluids outside of your blood vessels and into extra cellular spaces. So you have generally swelling and at the same time, your blood pressure goes down because the volume inside of your blood vessels go down. The other thing that happens is these bacteria secrete what's called super antigens, it's another type of toxin in which these antigens cause an immune response to these toxins. They bind to these toxins and that further complicates the situation. This is part of the reason why multi organ system failure is a potential complication and also why this is a potentially life threatening condition. So with that said, if there is any question seek medical attention immediately. This concludes discussing toxic shock and how it's spread. I'm Doctor Savage, and here's to your health."
