"My name is Jonathan Ayres with Network For Success. And today, I'm going to talk about how to compare Mac and Dell Laptops. In front of me, I have two laptops. This white one being a Macintosh laptop. And the black one being a Dell laptop. Now although, they're not exactly the same size. Part of the reason for this is, the variety of sizes that are available. And we're talking about screens here. So when we look at a laptop. There are so many variables that we have to think about. Let's just look at a few of the major important items that we have to look at. So you do want to consider weight. And the reason for that is, if you're ever going to carry this laptop around. Weight can be a real serious problem. You get up to about six or seven pounds on a laptop. And you're not going to want to carry it. So find out, how much it weighs. And make sure that it's something you feel comfortable with. If it's going to stay in your desk top all the time, don't worry about it. It won't make any difference. Now the screen size can also be important to you. However, if you're going to be traveling a lot. You may not want a large screen. Because it's going to mean extra weight. So you'd look at ti from that stand point. Now the most important part of looking at these laptops. And comparing them really has to do with what you're going to use the computer for. And that boils down to what type of work you're doing. So let's say for example, you're going to be doing simple word processing and e-mailing. Does it matter which laptop you buy? Not really. They both work almost exactly the same. You can see, the desktops look the same. And they both provide word processing, e-mail, browsers to look on the Internet. All the same sort of items. Now where would it be different? That you would want to buy a Macintosh over a Dell. Well, that would have to do within application that only worked on a Macintosh. And an application would be a program that you would use. So for example, it would be a program. Let's say, that had to do with, how to sew? And it had only been written for Macintosh computers. And it would not work on a Dell. So that would be a reason that you'd want to buy a Macintosh over a Dell. On the same aspect, you might find a program for doing communications. That would only work on a Dell, that wouldn't work on a Macintosh. And that would give you a good reason. So you look at whatever programs you're running at home. And find out, what copies of programs you have. And which computers they run on. A good example of this would be running QuickBooks. Now QuickBooks is an accounting program that a lot of people use for their home. And it runs on both computers. So you could actually find out that it runs on both computers. And then make a decision not to based on that. But on the program. So at the end of the day, what do you want to do? You want to find a computer here. Pick one that is good for you. That's easy to carry. Has a right size screen. And offers the features to allow you to run the programs that you have at home."
