"I'm Jonathan Ayres with Network for Success and we are going to talk today about what is a CPU. A CPU is the central processing unit and it is the brains inside of a computer that does all of the computing processes that you ask a computer to do. It's the central core where every command runs through and then it's routed to the proper location in order to have action taken. Now there are many different types of CPU's available but we all call them processors and when you go to buy a computer you'll be asking them well what type of processor does this have in it. And the answer will come back Intel or AMD or something along those lines. This computer in front of me is a Dell laptop. And it has a type of processor and it's made by Intel that's called a core two duo. And that means that it has two processors, two central processing units inside the processor. We can see a graphic representation of this on the screen on the right hand side, and the two graphs at the top are the ones that show the two different cores or brains. And they will give you a graph when an action occurs they will plot that action for you for you to look at. We also have the type of processor and the speed of the processor listed on the left hand side under system properties we can see this processor is listed as a two point four gigahertz. And that tells you how fast it vibrates or passes the information. So with two cores to this processor, two central processing units this computer is going to be very effective processing information because the central processing unit is what handles all of the commands that you give a computer."
