"I'm Jonathan Ayres with Network for Success and today we're going to talk about what is a network hub? Well, a network hub is a device that is used to connect computers together. Now we're going to do this using cables, so you have to have cables in the first place, but if you want to have a number of computers connected together so they can share information, what we call "talking to each other," then you buy a network hub. Now, network hubs are essentially what we call are dumb devices and the reason they're dumb devices is that they do, don't do anything other than just allow computers to be on the same cable. Now, how do you set up a network hub? Well, it's quite simple. You're just going to have a network hub like this one right here, and in the back there is a place to plug in a power supply and then there is a place to plug in the network cables. Now once you plug these network cables in, then they're going to be able to talk to each other. These computers will talk over these cables, across what we call a network. And you'll have lights up here that will show them working properly. So a computer hub, a network hub, is used to connect computers together so that they can talk to each other."
