"Hi I'm Harvey Kronberg I'm with Austin Flag and Flagpole. And one of the questions we get asked is about the flags that flew over Texas in particular, when was the Texas flag itself created. There were six flags, the first flag that flew over the state of Texas was a Spanish flag. They had sovereignty over Texas in the colonial days. Subsequently after that we had the French with dominion over Texas. This was the flag of the time, it's twenty three fleur de lis. After that Mexico was able to separate itself from France and the Mexican flag flew over the state of Texas up until about eighteen thirty six, eighteen thirty seven. The flag, when Texas became an independent country, after liberation from Mexico, this was the flag that was the national flag for the country of Texas. It was established in eighteen thirty nine. It subsequently when we became a state one of the states in the American Union, it was decided in eighteen forty five to keep this as the state flag of Texas and this is the one that most people think of with Texas. Of course after when the Civil War came along, Texas joined the confederacy so this confederate flag is the one that flew over Texas during the Civil War. After the Civil War we rejoined the Union and then of course the standard American Flag was the flag that flew over Texas. But for all practical purposes this is probably one of the best recognized flags in the world. Most people don't know what the flag of California, or New York or Colorado looks like but you can go pretty much any place in the world and they'll know that this is the flag that was established in eighteen thirty nine for the country of Texas and then reestablished for the state of Texas in eighteen forty five is the actual flag of Texas."
