"Hello, my name is Tom Brintzenhofe. I'm a certified master mechanic, from Reading, Pennsylvania. Today, we're going to talk about how to tell if your engine has got a fluid leak. The best thing that you can do, is just keep an eye on your driveway, where you normally park. Keep an eye out underneath your vehicle, as you move it. If you start seeing spots on the ground, it's a good indication you've got a leak. Another way to tell, is grab yourself a nice, clean piece of cardboard. I'm going to leave the engine running for quite a long time, maybe a half hour or so. Put yourself a piece of cardboard underneath it, preferably in the area you have spots on your driveway, and keep a good eye on it. If you see it starting to drip, shut your engine down, crawl up underneath it. Most of the time, you can see where it's coming from. There's plenty of garages that can put dyes and certain coolants and oils, and whatnot, to identify which one it is, if you can't tell. The other way to tell, is open your hood, take a peek around with a flashlight. You can see if you've got an engine leak, you'll see oil going down the side of the motor. A coolant leak, you'll see a trail most of the time, going down either one side, the side of the motor, but the easiest way to tell, is to just keep an eye out underneath your vehicle. A piece of cardboard, driveway, just keep a good look out. That's the easiest way to tell, if you've got a leak."
