"So your first step in actually towards creating your collage palette is choosing one tone or one hue to begin with. So as I've set aside piles, which is the first thing I tend to do, going through all of my books and magazines initially and setting aside my color palette. I'm going to just choose one of the hues to begin with and set aside the rest, so as not to become too mixed up and confused. It does become a little bit of a messy business working with collage and glue. You're dealing with paper and glue and sticky fingers and messy surface areas, so I'll get into that more as we're moving along, but the less paper that you're not using around your surface area of working, the better. So keep in mind just having one hue at a time is the best way to work for me, but it could be the best way for you as well. Just making sure to not have too much scrap in your way that's going to get sort of stuck to different parts that you're not looking forward to, and also to keep the separation of colors so that you know what you're working with."
