"My name is Ryan Wells. I'm the owner of a local fish store, located in Lindon, Utah, called Reef Runners. Unlike aquariums that are contained of fresh water, and fresh water organisms, there is no necessity to remove all the water from your tank. However, from time to time, it is necessary to do partial or small water changes. In order to do this, typically you would grab a couple of containers, usually of the same size. You proceed by creating a siphon, and removing the desired amount of water, into one container. In the other container, usually you'll have a premixed amount of replacement water. Usually, you mix this beforehand. After you have siphoned the water out of your tank into the first container, you then replace the desired amount of water, clean, fresh water into your tank. The simplest means to do this is through a siphon hose. You can also pick up different various items such as gravel vax, and other types of siphoning kits. These essentially do the same thing, but through different means, and through different ways."
