Hi this is Yolanda Vanveen and in this segment we are going to talk about how to stop algae from growing on the northern foundation of your house. If you live in the pacific northwest you know about algae. And you know about moss because we have really wet winters. And if you have any cement or smooth rocked key areas you'll find that algae will grow really easily. It's just this green slime that's actually a plant so it depends on sunlight to grow. So the easiest way to get rid of it is to cover it up and not give it any sun. So you can just cover it with some plastic or some leaves. So if you cover it with newspapers or anything else it will die immediately. But here we're outside and it would blow away and it's kind of a problem but I found some easy solutions to rid the algae. What I found that works really well is on algae, is any kind of a natural bathroom cleaner because a lot of them will contain either lemon juice. Through a lot of natural products have polyglucoside or other natural ingredients that will kill algae. And it would be just like your shower algae so it's very similar. So even straight lemon juice if you put a little bit of water maybe half and half and you spray it down that works really well too. And I've even used a real diluted solution of just a little bit of bleach maybe one fifth bleach and four fifths of water and it seems to kill the algae right away. And I just kind of soak it and then leave it and I found eventually it dries out and it dies. So it's really easy and I'll show you. So this is just some algae slime and I'm just cleaning it like I would clean my bathroom and the trick is to just soak it down. And I try only to use natural ingredients and as I said lemon juice works really well too and different types of Oxyclean or oxygen cleaning ingredients work really well too cause they are all natural and they don't harm the environment in any way.
