How to Troubleshoot Car Stereo Speakers

"Good afternoon, my name is Tom Brintzenhofe, a certified master mechanic from Reading Pennsylvania, and today we're going to learn how to troubleshoot car stereo speakers. First thing you want to do is, I already took liberty, is take your door panel off. Every door panel out there on every car is always different, so if you're not sure how to take it off get yourself a repair manual, local part store, I think they're like 12 dollars, something like that, it's a lot cheaper than breaking a door panel. Once you get your door panel off locate your speaker or speakers in your door. If you got a speaker that's cracking, the noise is a little distorted, chances are right off the bat you're going to need to replace that speaker. This particular speaker here isn't working at all. So we're going to go ahead and take the speaker out, and I'll show you how to troubleshoot whether or not it's the speaker or if it's actually the radio or the wiring. We're going to take these couple of screws out, I already have two of them out but I'm take these last two out here, save a little time. Try not to let the speaker fall out of the door, because if you got a good speaker the last thing you want to do is poke a hole in it. Unplug your speaker. In the back there's a little tab that usually holds them in, you just push that in and pull it right out. You want to set this on the dialed section or voltage sensing. If you got a signal this thing will automatically beep on you, there's two wires in this plug. It doesn't matter which way you hook these up, as long there's a signal it'll beep at you. You plug it in, it's beeping away, you know you got good signal out here. Next thing you need to do is just replace your speaker, reverse process, put your new one in, and you're good to go."
