How to Change Brake Pads

When changing brake pads on a car, make sure the car is jacked up, remove the bolts on the caliper and remove the brake pads. Replace brake pads in a car with help from an auto mechanic in this free video on car maintenance and repairs.

Good afternoon. My name's Tom Brintzenhofe, certified master tech out of Reading, Pennsylvania, and today I'm going to show you how to change brake pads. Now the first thing you want to do is make sure the car's all jacked up and...and secured, nice and easy up in the air. You're going to locate your two bolts, three bolts, or four bolts holding your caliper on. Typically, just two. Take your two bolts out. Make sure you're going the right way. Gonna loosen this one up, get these bolts out. Take your caliper out. And the last thing you want to do is let this thing hang down here, so you want to bring it up here, let it rest up there nice and easy. Pull your brake pads out of the holders. Real simple to come out. Grab your new ones, slide 'em right in there. Press the other way so you can see here. Set that in there. You want to take your old brake pad, set it in here. Take your brake caliper, to we can find these in any local parts store. And ask 'em for 'em when you go in and buy your brake pads, I think they're under ten dollars. Set your brake pad in there, put this in there and just start turning it in there. It'll pull one side in, and then the other side'll follow suit. Turn this here so you can see it. Once you get that all the way back it'll stop on it's own. Pull this out. Take your old brake pad and set it to the side. Slide that back over, and don't smash your little boots, here. Put your bolts back in it. Just make sure you pump up your brake pedal before you move it. It's as easy as that.
