How to Get Involved in a Political Campaign

"Hello, I'm Matthew Burbank, and I am an associate professor at the University of Utah. And I'd like to talk to you a little bit about how to get involved in a political campaign. The important point to recognize here is that in the United States we have campaigns that go on all the time, so you may think of campaigns as occurring only in Presidential election years, but recognize that in most states and localities in this country, campaigns are going on almost all of the time, at least every two years and generally every year. So there are many, many opportunities to get involved in political campaigns. And the easiest way to get involved in political campaigns is simply to go and volunteer. Campaigns almost are always looking for volunteers. Large campaigns, not just presidential elections, will involve hundreds of campaign volunteers and even smaller campaigns often have ten or twenty volunteers involved in their campaign and in some cases there are maybe just one or two volunteers in a campaign. But it's very easy to get involved and the only real way that you have to be qualified to do it is to talk to people who are involved and figure out how to volunteer for some campaign that you're interested in and care about, it's a very easy thing to get involved in political campaigns."
