"Hello I'm Matthew Burbank and I'm an Associate Professor at the University of Utah and I'd like to talk to you a little bit about how to determine if you are a Republican. Again generally speaking one of the things you would want to recognize is that the nature of the party labels are going to change depending upon where you are at and the kinds of politics that occur in various states so generally what you want to do is think about whether you are Republican or Democrat in terms of the kinds of issues that are most comfortable for you. Generally speaking most people lean from Partisans from their parents and often adopt the kinds of views that their parents hold and for many people that is a perfectly reasonable way to learn about whether you are a Democrat or a Republican. For some adults they are more comfortable looking at the political parties in terms of issues and that looking at the kinds of issues that Democrats support and the kinds of issues that Republicans might support and making their decisions about their political meanings from the basis of issues."
