Hi, I'm Julia Drake and I'm going to talk to you about how to host a book club. If you want to host a book club, first you have to decide what kind of book club you want to host. What kind of books you want to be talking about. And so, the first thing you have to do is, you know, to search through the books that you like, or that you would like to present, and once you've found it, you know, invite you know, people to join your group. And then, it is on you to, you know, find out between your interests and their interests, you know, find out a selection of books. And, and then, from that selection maybe you can conduct a survey, and you know, so you can find out like, vote on one book that you're going to talk about, that you're going to start with. And, and you provide the host space for the weekly meetings, you know and eventually you can rotate, you know hosts can rotate. But you start out and, you know, usually it's customary to provide drinks and, you know, some snacks. It is good when you start out with a book to ask, you know, to provide a context, you know, for the book. Which means, you know, a biography of the author, what they've done before. Also, it might be good to, you know, present some reviews of the book, to prompt discussion questions and just establish a flow in the conversation for everyone to join in. Good questions to start out with are, you know, did you like the book, you know, and if you liked it, why, if you didn't like it, why not? Then overall questions about what did you think the theme was, what inspired you about the book, you know, what did you like about the characters. Everyone should also you know, be open to suggest questions so it's not just you driving everything. Setting rules, you know, it is on you as the host or, you know, as the members of the group. But usually the first rule should be that everyone has to have read the book, because otherwise, you know, there's really no point. Otherwise it just becomes, you know, a get together evening, socializing get together.
