"Hi. My name is Dave Andrews and today I am going to tell you how computers work. Let's go to my computer here where I have got a little bit of a diagram that I can show you. Basically we have here a an image of a computer that is going to explain to you the major parts of hardware inside of this computer. One of the major parts of hardware inside your computer is the motherboard, now if you look on the back of your computer and see where your monitor is plugged into and your keyboard and mouse are plugged into that is actually going into the back of this motherboard right here, your motherboard does the majority of the processing and control for how your computer works. Now somewhere on one of these chips on the motherboard is going to be the processor and that's what you hear people talking about the computer has a you know real fast processor so many gigahertz and what not that is actually going to be a part of this motherboard. Now when you store files on your computer that is jumping up to another device here called a hard drive, that hard drive basically is a magnetic storage device that keeps all the files that you are working on and your operating system stores everything right there on the hard drive. Your computer is powered by the power supply that is usually at the top right here just like this one is and if you look at the back of your computer you are going to see a black power cable going into it and that is going to be your power supply. That power supply is connected to your motherboard your hard drive floppy drive if you have one and all of your CD drives as well and that is what powers your computer. These are the basic components of a computer and what all you need to know really is that the motherboard on your computer and the processor and the memory are what do all the work. My name is Dave Andrews and I have just explained to you how computers work."
