"So you have a two month old and you are wondering what do I need to be doing to stimulate her senses? Well the first thing you need to do is take a deep breath. Hi I'm Dr. Donna with some advice on stimulating your daughter or your son's sensory motor development. The first thing you need to know is that at this period they are starting to be a lot more alert to their environment. They can take in a lot more stimulus but don't worry about that. But still keep an eye on your child to make sure they are not getting over stimulated. You can use simple props around the house that you can find or you can go to the Dollar Store and get simple props. One thing you can do is just use some simple rhythm sticks, tapping them, moving them up, moving them down, look again to see if they are getting over stimulated, back off. This is great for visual tracking, auditory stimulation. You can also get some flashlights. One thing you can do is you don't ever want to shine it in their face but you can bring it under your face, make sounds, coo with them, giggle with them, imitate whatever they are doing. With flashlights you can move it up on the ceiling, turn the lights off, you can do some wonderful stuff with a flashlight. Also scarves are wonderful, bandanas, scarves, anything, moving them up and down. One thing you can do is toss it up in the air and catch it. Sometimes children are o'kay with it going slightly over their face nice and gentle. They'll love that sensation. Also if you are a silly kind of parent like I am you can use the sock and create sock puppets moving it back and forth. If they're making sounds, giggle with them and make the same sound with the sock puppet. Also I love DVD's. DVD's are great, especially these, these are just a few Baby Einstein, Brainy Babies. You can use them to stimulate your child's sensory motor again. You might want to watch it with them to help them if they are getting over stimulated. Also one thing you can do is pick your little one up and carry them around the room, let them see the outside, let them see dogs, animals, birds, whatever. Create a whole new environment for them. I'm Dr. Donna with some tips and I hope that helps you. Good luck."
