"Some of the best parts about being a television news reporter are just you get to go out and play every single day. Some jobs you actually have to work hard either through manual labor or a lot of sort of intellectual work and even though this job, TV news reporting, requires some manual labor and a lot of intellectual work it is balanced by being fun and what I mean by that is while you are on vacation for example what do you do? You go take pictures and stuff. You go talk to people, that's what a television news reporter does every day and he makes a living at it. My job as a television news reporter is to go talk to interesting people. Go take pictures of interesting things and then at six o'clock when the news comes on I just share my day with everyone at my community. It's really a great deal of fun. One of the cons to television news reporting is it is hard to get your start, there is so much competition and so few jobs in this particular field that it is very hard to get your start. It is very difficult to get your foot in the door anywhere and once you do get an opportunity to do this for a living, to do television news reporting, the pay is fairly bad early on. But then again look at Oprah. Oprah Winfrey started at a radio station not making a lot of money and now she is the richest woman on Earth. You could be the next Oprah or you may fail and that is one of the cons to being a television news reporter. Another pro to being a television news reporter is just all the fascinating people you get to meet. Because what you are doing is a community service, you are informing the public about various topics and things going on, you need to learn about them first so you learn about important research, you learn about important activities like Presidential races or even local races. You learn about new research going on at universities or other institutions. You learn about all the fascinating things that go on in the community around you so that you can share that information with the public. You also get to try a lot of different things. For example, how many of you have ridden in a police car or in a plane or other acrobatic activities or in hospitals and I've seen all kinds of interesting things. And it is one of the many cool things you get to try when you are doing this for a living."
