"My name's Ryan Parker with Parker Home Renovations and today I'm going to teach you how to put trim around a window. There's several different types of trim you could use, it's really up to your preference, you could use a one by four trim, or a casing like I'm going to use here. Casings are a little bit more decorative than the one by four trim and they're a little bit more common also, in the newer homes. Basically, the first thing that you're going to need to do is you're going to need to measure the window opening. You want to measure the outside of the window from end to end, and then you want to add the width of your trim, whether it's casing or one by four trim, you want to add that times two, because you're going to have two sides of trim on the window. So, this one is two and three eighths of an inch wide, so I'll measure the window opening and add four and three quarters of an inch to the overall measurement. Take that measurement and measure it out on the wood, you'll cut the wood and then you'll want to miter each end, like I did here at a forty five. You always want the thicker side of the casing to be out away from the door. So, you'll miter from the thick side in, and from the thick side in, then you place this in place on the window and you do the same thing for the side of the window and you get a nice finished edge like that."
