This is financial adviser Patrick Munro talking about "Is You're Checking Account Number the Same as your Debit card number". In the world of modern banking we have a new card. It's not a credit card, but rather a debit card. The debit card is a way for you to pay for purchases without incurring charges or costs. When you present the debit card to the merchant, money is taken directly out of your account via checking or savings. I want to be clear here when I say that card does not contain your checking account or savings account number, for obvious reasons. If you were to lose the card then of course you would have your accounts out there in the free world. You don't want to have that. So, it's important to make sure that you realize that there is a convenience in using your card, but you must always make sure you keep track of your purchases and place them in your ledger and control your expenses going forward. Debit cards are a great convenience to have, but make sure and be aware that your checking account number is not the same as your debit card number. This is financial adviser Patrick Munro.
