"The right accessories for your fish tank will make the difference between blah and wow. Hi, I'm Bruce with Aquatek in Austin, Texas, and today we're going to discuss how to select aquarium accessories. The right accessories will determine a lot in how successful you are in this hobby. Filters should be picked based on the size of the fish your keeping as well as the aquarium. Remember that five big fish will need more filter capacity than fifty small fish. Lighting type is also going to be determined by your goals for the aquarium. If you're doing a simple rock scape then the light that came with your tank should be just fine. You may want to change the bulb though. But if you're doing a planted aquarium, or a reef aquarium, then high output lighting like T5 lighting or metal hay light will probably be your best choice, and decorative materials. Choose carefully here. Calcareous rocks may be great for African Cichlids but they wont work well with South American Apistagrammas. Light weight plastic plants will be great for a gentle community aquarium but large cichlids will have them floating at the top of the tank in no time. And that's how to select aquarium accessories. Until next time this is Bruce with Aquatek Tropical in Austin, Texas."
