Telecommuting, or work from home (WFH), is a work arrangement in which employees enjoy flexibility in their work location and hours. In other words, the daily commute to a central office is replaced by telecommunication links. Many work from home, while others utilize mobile telecommunications technology to work from coffee shops or a myriad of other locations. As broadband Internet connections become more common, more workers have enough bandwidth at home to link their home office to their corporate intranet and internal phone networks. In this free video series, a freelance writer provides advice for doing work at home, whether it be for a telecommuting job, a home office or a privately-owned business run at home. Tips for staying productive are included, such as eating healthy, using notebooks, avoiding distractions and scheduling work. Other pitfalls, such as procrastination and working too much are outlined as well. With this career advice, anyone who works at home can maximize their time and create a productive working environment in the comfort of their own home.
"One thing that can be really helpful, when you work from a home office, and you really want to maximize your productivity, is to keep a notebook and a pen handy, at all times, and the reason this can be helpful, is even when you're not working, and you definitely don't want to be working. If you have this around, then it kind of can help you decrease that temptation, to run upstairs, or downstairs, wherever your office is, and get your ideas down. If you have this kind of by your bed, and you can put it in your purse, or your briefcase, when you go out. Then, it's just a great place to, when you get a moment of insight, for a project that you're working on. Maybe an idea to increase profits for your business or whatever it is. You can write it down, and then first thing when you come into the office the next day. You can kind of look at that, and work that into your schedule, for the day.If you don't keep track of your good ideas, a lot of times you lose them. I know with all experience, that how many times have you found yourself not being able to remember every really great idea that you had? and that kind of like can bum you out, so just avoid that by keeping a notebook and a pen handy, and record your thoughts, and that can also help you. You write it down, and then you can forget about it, and so you don't have to have that in the back of your mind, just kind of adding a little more stress to your life, so I've found, that that's very helpful."
