"This is Dan at Painted Temple Tattoo, talking about how to preserve your tattoo with effects of chlorine and sun, on your tattoo. Sun is the worst thing that you can do on your tattoo, not only while it's healing but ten, or twenty, or fifty years down the road even. Protect your tattoo from the sun, it will definitely damage your tattoo, basically by damaging the top layers of skin that you're looking through down to the tattoo. Even if you don't have tattoo's, the sun is really hard on your skin obviously, it causes wrinkles, and sun spots, or cancer, whatever. As far as chlorine goes, I get chlorine on my tattoo's when I shower. When their brand new, don't ever submerge a tattoo under water, any water, while it's healing, I think three weeks after you get it maybe, don't get anything on your tattoo, keep it simple while it's healing. Afterwards, you're pretty much just fine, your skin's healed, it's intact, it has a protective layer, so you know, cleaning products, or bleach, or anything like that is really not going to hurt your skin anymore than it would normally, once your tattoo is healed."
