"This is Dan at Painted Temple Tattoo talking about the risks and safety of tattooing. The biggest risk of tattooing is ignorance. Scratchers, at home tattooers or even tattooers in some shop that just don't know what they're doing. That's the biggest risk right there. There's spreading all sorts of blood borne illnesses like hepatitis on down. Mirsa is a huge risk. It's mithacillin resistant staph and basically it's on your skin right now and it can be introduced into a tattoo if the client is not, if the precautions aren't taken. Many of these things are pretty easy to prevent if you're using your autoclave correctly and your ultra sonic, you're cleaning up properly where you tattoo and yourself and your client. These things can be avoided. I think the main obstacle is just people who are ignorant and are just doing it anyway and they're putting themselves at risk too as well as all the clients and people around them."
