"This is Oak at Painted Temple Tattoo in Provo, Utah and this is how to take care of a tattoo. Your tattoo needs to be cleaned so you're going to need to wash it with your regular soap at home. Nothing fragranced. Nothing, no pretty smelling. You just want to use a regular soap, Dove, Ivory, liquid Dial, some soft hand soap is suffice for that. Clean it in the shower. Use your hands, soap and water. Get out, pat it dry, let it air out a little bit. You want to put some Aquaphor on there or Vitamin A&D ointment. There's not too much out there that's better than that. They are good for your body and chances are you're not going to have an allergic outbreak or an outbreak from the petroleum. Keep it clean. Keep the ointment really, really thin. Do not get your tattoo in the sun. Do not submerge your tattoo in any kind of body of water. The only water you're going to get on it is shower water. So no baths, no swimming, no sunbathing. Nothing like that. You should never rebandage your tattoo. You're going to restrict oxygen to your tattoo and therefore your tattoo is going to swell. It's going to try to push everything out of it's way in order to get oxygen in. So don't rebandage it. You should follow these instructions for at least two weeks."
