"We need some sun for vitamin D, but nowhere in the medical books does it say we have to get sun on our face, neck, chest and hands, which are the first areas to show your age. I'm Jackie Silver from Aging Backwards, with how to buy suncreen. Remember those places that show your face first? I cover those with SPF thirty-five, that's my Aging Backwards secret. There are so many brands of sunscreen, and levels of sun protection available. How do you know which is best for you? Typically sunscreens have a sun protection factor or SPF, of fifteen or less. Sunblock is SPF thirty or higher. If you're fair-skinned, at high altitude, near the equator, or you're out on a hot, sunny day between ten AM and four PM, you should choose a sunblock with SPF thirty or higher. Look for the words broad spectrum on the label to protect against ultraviolet A or UVA, and ultraviolet B, or UVB rays. Get water resistant products if you're going to be swimming or sweating, and select a product that's non-comedogenic for your face. That means it won't clog your pores. Whether you choose a spray, stick, gel or lotion, none of it is effective if you don't use it properly. Apply sunscreen literally thirty minutes before exposure, and reapply every two hours or more often if you're wet or sweating. Remember, when buying sunscreen pay attention to the sun protection factor or SPF, the time of day you're out in the sun, and apply at least thirty minutes before exposure. I'm Jackie Silver with how to buy sunscreen. Stay young."
