"Moles are usually not serious, but some moles can be skin cancers. I'm Jackie Silver with how to care for your skin after a mole is removed. You should always check with your doctor if you have a mole that has grown in size or has darkened or has irregular edges. Once your doctor has removed the mole, you'll want to take good care of the skin so you don't end up with a scar. Always follow your doctor's orders when caring for your skin after a mole removal. Keep the wound covered and especially avoid direct exposure to sunlight. Be sure to keep the area clean and dry and apply any ointment or other topical products as directed by your doctor. If you have stitches, avoid sudden movements that may tear the stitches. Your doctor will usually remove the stitches after about four days, but possibly as long as twenty-one days later depending on the condition. Be sure to keep all your follow-up appointments and call your doctor if the area becomes tender, red or hot. This may indicate infection. Remember, to care for your skin after a mole is removed, keep the area covered and away from direct sunlight, follow your doctor's orders carefully and contact your doctor if you suspect any infection.
