"As we age, our skin can develop dark spots sometimes called age spots, sun spots or liver spots. I'm Jackie Silver from Aging Backwards with how to avoid getting age spots. Some of these spots are actually a result of skin damage that occurred from sun damage earlier in life. They can show up even years later, even if you've avoided the sun for a long time. There are a number of ways to avoid getting age spots and also to remove them, but you should always check with your doctor for the best option for you. To avoid getting the age spots, wear a high SPF sunscreen on your face, neck, chest and hands every day. These are the areas that tend to show age first. Make sure you choose a broad spectrum sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays with an SPF of at least fifteen, but preferably thirty-five or higher. Always wear a broad brimmed hat when you're going to be in direct sunlight. Wearing a long sleeve shirt will protect your arms as well. Try to avoid being exposed to direct sun during the peak hours of 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. when the sun is at its highest and strongest. Remember, to avoid getting age spots, limit the amount of time you're exposed to direct sun, wear a broad spectrum sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays and remember to use it on your hands too. They can show your age."
