"To burn more calories you have to find ways that you can incorporate more activity into your daily life. This is Alice Monsaert with some tips on just how to do that. If you drive your car to work, then park your car further away in the parking lot so you have to walk into your building. If you have an elevator or an escalator, take the stairs instead. Incorporate activity as much as you can. If you have a 15 minute break at work, get up and walk around the building. It is not about how many calories you can burn in one setting, it is about burning calories all day long. Instead of watching TV at night see if you can go out and take a walk around the neighborhood and meet the neighbors. If you are on an exercise program, one way to burn more calories is to increase the intensity of a program that you are currently doing. If you are walking on a treadmill, great for you, try and increase the speed and/or the incline so that you will burn more calories during your program. It is what we call interval training is taking your heart rate up and down a little bit more in your work out rather than that steady state training. If you are swimming, try to swim a couple of strokes a little bit faster. If you are walking, walk to the mailbox as fast as you can and then stroll to the neighbor's house. In order to burn more calories you have to increase the intensity of your workout in the things that you do in your daily life so this is Alice. I want to encourage you to think about all the ways that you can increase the activity in your day and burn more calories. You will be happier, healthier and live longer."
