"Have you ever wondered how to teach your toddler number recognition? My name is Dr. Donna, I'm here to help you some simple tips or teach you some simple tips to help you child, your toddler recognize numbers. I'm tongue tied today. One thing that I did with my daughter and I started from a very early age is started using DVD’s. Not only did I use these DVD’s like maybe Baby Einstein and Brainy Babies, I sat down and interacted with her during the DVD’s so when there were numbers on the screen we talked about them, we counted, we count everything. We count the food on our plate, we count the number of steps that lead up to her bedroom, we count toys; we count whatever. If this was one of her toys we'd be counting this and we count in groups and by colors, constantly counting and also bringing awareness to numbers. Remember the symbol of number 2 or number 3 is different from understanding the quantity; you've got to connect symbols with quantities. A lot of time children have a hard time so they see, they need to see you write number 2 and then they need to see the number of quantity that 2ness brings about. So if you have a chart or paper write down this is the number 2 and 2 ducks or 2 balls, whatever. Bring that awareness; make that connection between the symbol and the actual quantity. Learning numbers is a process, it's not going to happen over night but if you keep counting and interacting with numbers, and toys and books, anything that brings about numbers and the symbols that represent the quantity children will begin to comprehend. About and around 18 months children learn about numbers so be patient, it's a process and enjoy it. I'm Dr. Donna with some tips on toddler recognition."
