"Hi. My name is Tim Cole with the Austin Reptile Service. I've been keeping reptiles and amphibians for over forty years and we're here to talk to you about breeding bearded dragons. I acquired my first bearded dragon about twelve years ago and I still have him and he's bred several females over the years, and it's pretty simple really. You want to keep them together in a fairly good size cage, at least a forty gallon tank, and it's a good idea to keep several females to one male because some males can be a little rough on the girls if they're kept on a one to one. So try and keep at least two girls to one boy. You do need to cool them down a little bit in the winter and when you warm them back up again in the spring and they'll usually take over from there. When the females start to get heavy and start digging around in the corner of the cage, they're ready to lay their eggs. Some people will set up a separate container for a nest box. They'll put them in there and let her lay and then they'll dig the eggs up and put them in an incubator. We incubate the bearded dragon eggs anywhere from 80-83 degrees. It usually takes about 60 days for them to hatch."
