Summary: Before buying frogs as pets, decide on the species. Buy frogs with expert tips from a reptile specialist in this free video about pet care.
"Hi, I'm Tim Cole. I'm with the Austin Reptile Service, and I've been keeping reptiles and amphibians for over forty years, and we're here to talk about how to buy a frog. The first thing you need to consider is, how much space do you have? A large bullfrog would not make a good pet if you don't have a lot of space. But there are lots of smaller frogs available that make good pets, such as the white tree frogs, green tree frogs, gray tree frogs, African clawed frogs, which are aquatic, and so on. Some of these frogs can be purchased at expos, which is where I would recommend going. That way you can buy the frogs directly from the breeder. A lot of the breeders have care sheets, tell you how to take care of these animals, what's involved. Keep in mind, if you're keeping small frogs, you're going to end up keeping insects to feed them. A lot of people use crickets, some people use meal worms, wax worms, believe it or not, a lot of people raise roaches to feed their frogs. So, not only are you going to be keeping the frog, but you're going to keep insects to feed them. That's very important."
