Movie Star Qualifications

"You become a movie actor, by strangely enough, working in a movie. So, that may be a catch twenty two situation for a lot of people. How do I get in a movie. Well, I can only tell you that for all the different paths that lead to one destination, all actors have different stories about how that came to them. It should be a goal of yours to work in film. A lot of actors go through theater training either in a college or university or even amateur, just, you know, doing it on your own; whether it starts off as child's theater or community theater productions and escalates itself from there. Many different ways to do that, but it's usually a goal that, you know; gosh, if I could just get in a film or TV show. A lot of actors will go to TV first after coming into the business and that all depends on getting an agent or a manager interested enough in you to sign you, okay, by showing them look at the body of work I have in theater, you know. I've done, you know, all these different plays. I was Rumple Stilt Skin back in high school, you know, this sort of thing. And they have to see potential; sincere earnestness, you know. I mean that you really want to do this, and you're passionate about it, and you believe in yourself, and believe me that just speaks fine when you go into a room, and you believe in yourself. It allows other people to buy into that and feel your energy and believe in you and have confidence in sending you out to audition for a TV or film project, and you never know, hopefully the gods are smiling on you, and the set and the direction likes you, and they hire you for the project. The skills you need to be a movie star, is the ability to hold the attention of your audience and that certain element that Je ne Sais Quoi as the French say; that ability to do that, is why movie stars are movie stars. We don't know why a movie star is a movie star; other than we like to watch them and we can't take their eye; our eyes off them or he or her."
