Probably the most commonly used method would be to acquire a field guide for the area that you're looking for frogs. If you're traveling to another state, you could get a state field guide which would probably carry all the frogs that are found in that area. That's an easy way to identify them. Also, frog calls. A lot of parks and wildlife departments in various states have CD's available with frog calls on 'em. And even though you may not see the frog, you can certainly hear the frogs. You can get on web sites, and look up various identification programs that are available for frogs. If you're buying a frog in a pet store, hopefully they've identified it correctly, and you can follow up with information about that.
