"Hi, my name is Tim Cole. I'm with the Austin Reptile Service, and I've been keeping reptiles and amphibians for over forty years. And we're here to talk about dwarf African clawed frogs. These are fairly commonly kept for pets. They're set up in a fish aquarium. And there are a couple different varieties. There are albinos that are bred in captivity for pets, and then the regular ones which are more brown and gray. Both on these animals take the same care, same set up. They both eat flake food, they'll eat tubifex worms, possibly some of the small turtle pellets, if they're small enough, and if you have some baby guppies they probably feed on those also. They don't get very big, about an inch. And some of them will get along with fish as long as the fish are not too aggressive. Since they're not very big, a large fish obviously could eat them. But they're rather interesting little animals. They actually have claws on their feet, thus the name African clawed frogs. The larger variety of those, which is a different sub-species, back in the fifties and sixties, were used for pregnancy testing."
