"Hi, I'm Hunter from the Austin Aqua-Dome. Hermit crabs come from a variety of habitats. There are tree hermit crabs that live on land and then there are the marine hermit crabs that live in the ocean. The ones that we sell, here in our store, are marine hermits, which are very useful scavengers in a salt water aquarium. They require the same conditions as most of the salt water fish and, typically, live on the bottom collecting left over food and debris. The hermit crabs that most people come into contact with are the tree hermit crabs, commonly sold in malls and different places and have available fancy painted shells to put with it. These land hermits need to be kept in a terrarium that has different rocks and things in it. These hermit crabs do eat a diet of special hermit crab food and need a wet sponge for them to get their water from. I would consult a reptile store in your area to get specialized care for these land hermit crabs."
