"Hi, I'm Hunter from the Austin Aqua Dome. Rainbow fishes are popular and colorful fresh water fish that many people would like to keep in their tanks. Rainbows thrive under a variety of water conditions, and shouldn't need any buffering or adjusting of the pH, from what the pH of your natural areas tap water is. Rainbow fish do well on a pellet or a flake diet that would be suitable for most other tropical fish. One of the things about rainbow fish to consider, is that there best color is formed as they become adults. The more you feed, and the more often that you change the water, will help to grow them faster. And then you will be able to attain the bright reds and blues that the adult rainbow fish will have. Rainbow fish are very active fish, and should be kept with moderately aggressive fishes, such as barbs, larger tetras, angels, and other South American peaceful cichlids."
