Hi, are you ready to add some layers to your shimmies? My name's Karen and this is Johanna, and we're here with Hip Expressions Belly Dance Studio, in Saint Petersburg, Florida. First, we're going to go over layering shimmies, and how to go about doing that. So, we're going to have our feet slightly apart. We're going to keep our heels pressed into the floor. We don't want to lift our heels while we're doing our shimmy. Knees are going to be soft, belly button's going to be pulled into the spine. Lift your chest; shoulders up and down, roll them back and down, arms out; away from your body, just so you can see the line of your body. Now, we're going to first drill the shimmy for just a moment, and then we're going to talk about layering on top of that. So we're going to start with just a regular beat of a slow eight count, so you're going to go one, two, three, four, five, six. And we're going to double-time it, one and two, and three and four, and five and six, and seven and eight; now shimmy, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, good. So that's how, that's a really good way to drill your shimmy, and make sure your shimmy is good and strong before you layer on top of it. Make sure those heels stay pressed into the floor. So now you've got a good strong, even, counted, countable shimmy going. You can layer different things on top of it. So you can keep this kind of on automatic, and then you can roll all your other layers on top. Check some of our other clips to see what else you can put on top of it. So, this is how you would layer a shimmy.
