"My name is Dorothy Schick. I'm a flight instructor and owner of TakeWING, at the Creswell Airport, near Eugene, Oregon. I started my first job in aviation, was actually created by myself. I decided to start my own flight school, and decided to do that, because I was tired of working in a cubicle, in a large corporation, and I always loved flying, and had slowly but surely, acquired all the ratings and licenses required, to become a flight instructor, so whereas some people start out working for others, I really decided I wanted to do it all by myself, and that's what I did, but one of the things I didn't know about as well, was the business of flight training, and I've learned that as I've gone along, so starting a business when you don't have the tools. I had to go out and find an airplane. I had to find a place to operate from. I had to acquire the permission from the airport, and the insurance, and then I had to find customers, who were willing to start out, with a fairly inexperienced instructor. I had a lot of flight hours before becoming a flight instructor, but I didn't have a lot of instructing experience. However, all the stars aligned, and it all worked out pretty well. I also did a lot of scenic flights, to fill in the time between the customers, who were learning to fly, and the times when I didn't have so much business."
