"My name is Dorothy Schick. I'm a flight instructor and the owner of TakeWING, at the Creswell Airport, near Eugene, Oregon. There are a lot of tools that we use. Some of them are mental. Our ability to calculate and think three steps ahead of an airplane. Obviously, an airplane is a tool. We also have a lot of multitasking that is required, good communication, good vision, which is correctable, obviously, and we also need to have things like little headsets in the air, to make our hearing better, and keep our hearing from getting worse. We also use simulators, which will enhance our ability to train procedures with pilots, before they actually get in the airplane. We have tools for simulating testing, simulating processes. We use a lot of textbooks, and software, to acquire skills and knowledge, that might not be readily available, and also scenario based training, which gives us ways to think through emergencies and other possible problems before they happen, and know what to do, before they occur."
