Video Transcript

"So there are a couple things that would stand out in my mind as being really important things you might want to be able to use in your day to day working with people. One is almost every financial adviser I know and I work with at least has some sort of a calculator. And it's usually a programmable kind and it accepts formulas. Learning to use it is not the funnest thing I've ever done but once I mastered it I have to say I couldn't imagine living without it. And the other thing is my computer. Which I do lots of analysis of portfolios, I do my trading on. I enter client information and client tracking on so that if something is going to happen down the road I can refer to it to make sure something is done in a timely manner. Or If I told someone I'm going to do something for them on a certain date, a trade or whatever, that's actually done on my computer. And so those types of what I would call had items, I couldn't live without them. As far as other things that I think are extraordinarily important if you're thinking about choosing this career is good communication skills might be the most important thing. If you can't convey to a client what you feel like they should do or you can't listen to a client when they tell you what they want to achieve then I think you would have a hard time in this business. It's probably the easiest thing in the world to hear someone speak but it maybe is a little harder to hear what they say and then try and get them to actually do a plan that will help them get to the goal that they actually told you they wanted."
