Video Transcript

"My name is Jerry Elliot. I am a managing partner of a small engineering firm in Eugene Oregon called Weber Elliot Engineers. I've been asked to address the question of how much do civil engineers make. At our firm in this region in the northwest our beginning engineers coming fresh out of school are going to make around forty-four thousand dollars a year. Now, if they have some experience and some practical experience in the field they are probably going to be boosted up by about ten percent over that. Now, you need to understand that this is very regional and localized. In bigger metropolitan areas you can easily expect a ten to fifteen percent increase. It is not uncommon for managing engineers and senior principles in consulting groups to earn eighty to one hundred and twenty thousand dollars a year, but on the other hand it's pretty rare for an engineer to be making over about two hundred thousand dollars a year. So, there's a broad range of salaries and expectations for civil engineers."
