"Hello. Have you ever considered volunteering for a battered women's shelter? Well I'm Dr. Felicia, and I'd like to share a few tips with you on that. Volunteering for a battered women's shelter is relatively easy. You call your local battered women's shelter, you can get that number from a local town hall, or the front of the white pages of the phone book. Once you find the battered women's center, they will have a series of paperwork for you to fill out. Because they do need to know who you are, and why you're getting involved. They may actually do a background check, because there are many private confidential matters that come up in the center. And then the other thing that they will do, is ask for your area of expertise. If you happen to be a good speaker, they might put you in the speakers bureau. If you happen to be good at the cashier, they may have you working the thrift store, so anything that is special to you. They may have you working with the children at the battered women's shelter, in order for entertainment and things like that, educational needs. So whatever area of expertise you have will be emphasized, and you'll be matched with the proper job at the women's center. Be prepared to hear stories that may be pretty horrendous sometimes, pretty frightening. But those are all areas that are very essential to be approached with the individual women. It's a very difficult time for women in a shelter, or to be using the battered women's center. So you will need to be patience, lots of empathy, and understanding. I would assume you have it, or you wouldn't be volunteering for the battered women's center to begin with. So I do wish you good luck with this. Volunteering for the enter, be prepared for paperwork, and visit the town hall if you need the phone numbers. Again, I thank you for this important information. My name is Dr. Felicia, and signing off for now."
