For instance a battered women shelters are pretty well advertised with in local districts, what people don't realize if you call your local town court clerk they usually have a listing of all the social services available in the community. Also if you look in the front pages of the white pages in most communities there's a listing of all the social services and emergency numbers needed. You would probably look under crisis center, that's a good place to start. Crisis center has an info line; it can refer you to your local battered women's center. And once you do call the center they have a variety of services that will, they'll be able to explain to you. For instance they may have a support groups, they may have services for you; clothing for you, if you have to leave they have shelters where they can house you and your children if you're under duress, and threatened of harm for your life. They also have funding that can help some temporary expenses and also there are lawyers who donate their time pro-bono which is what they're required to do, a certain amount of hours each year for every attorney but they do donate their time to the battered women's center. So you may be able to get professional advice as well.
