"You know, activities during warm weather can cause certain body functions to occur. Hi, I'm Captain Joe Bruni, and what I want to talk about is how to treat heat exhaustion. Heat exhaustion injury can be a pretty dramatic injury. The first step would be to remove the person out of the direct sunlight and out of the heat source into a possible cooler environment. Also remove any type of restrictive clothing that has some type of heat retaining capability or quality to it. Then, apply some type of cold compress to the front of the forehead or the back of the neck, or possibly both. Elevate the feet eight to ten inches, much like you would do for shock-type of situation. And then administer plenty of water or sports-types of drinks. Keep in mind the sports-types of drinks have high amounts of electrolytes. If too much is taken in, arrhythmias of the cardiac system could begin to take place. So consider diluting the sports drink with fifty percent water in the heat exhaustion situation. I'm Captain Joe Bruni, stay safe, and we'll see you next time."
