A classic Japanese origami piece is the Japanese crane. It's kind of synonymous with origami. My name is Robert Segundo and today I'm going to teach you how to make that origami crane. Look down here on our table you can see I already have my piece of paper. It's a square, and it's already pre-creased, so we can kind of move through this rather quickly. What you're going to do is we're going to start this off in a little bird base, and to get your bird base, you're going to take your paper, you're going to fold it into a triangle like so. Open it back up, fold your triangle like so. Now what we're going to do is we're going to fold our paper in half here, open it up, fold our paper in half there. And then what you're going to do is choose the diamond section here, and you're going to bring your paper over, fold it back off that crease, bring it over, fold it back off that crease like so, until you have this diamond shape here. What we're going to do is we're going to fold our corners in to the center line here and here, and then open it up and go into what's called a petal fold, like so, and fold it down and there you are, your first half of your bird base. Do the same thing over here. Pre-creased it so we could move along with this rather quickly. There we go. Now what we're going to do is we're going to pull this edge up over here, we're going this edge up here, and then we're going to fold it over in half like so, on both sides, until you have your crane. This is going to be his head, and his tail. You're going to take and you're going to what's called squash fold, where you're going to bring this down to where it's even with this side here, and then you're just going to squash fold it here, and then press it down really good. The same thing over here, squash fold to that position there. Now what we're going to do is to make his head, we're just going to open this up and rabbit ear fold it down like so. Just open it up, fold it down, and then squash it back down like so. Bring the wings up on both sides, and then we're going to angle off with this point here and fold the wings forward towards his head. The same thing over here--fold it forward and towards his head. And there it is, your ornamental Japanese crane. My name is Robert Segundo, and enjoy folding.
