"Knots have a long and varied history throughout the ages. And today I'm going to show you one of the simplest, easiest knots that you really just can't untie and every child knows this is seems like from birth. So if we look down here to our piece of string I'm going to show you the simple overhand knot. And basically, all you're going to do is loop it over like so, and then bring this under, and tie it. And there you go, there's your overhand knot. If a lot of pressure's applied to this, this knot is not coming out, no matter what you do. You just have to cut this knot out and you know, throw your string away because now you've been wasting your string. So here we go, once again it's just over and through, and there you go. Now the only application this really has is using it as a stopper knot. And it's like if you're carrying a jug or something that the string will fit through and you'll want your knot to slip through, it'll come up and it'll catch and it'll hold whatever it is. As long as the knot's big enough, you can usually use this on bigger rope, and as long as you don't put a whole lot of tension on it you can get it out rather easily. But other than that this is just usually a useless knot, just something, you know to mess up all your rope with. So, I'm Harold Winchester and enjoy tying your simple overhand knot."
