How to Tie a Bowline Knot

"Knots have a long and varied history throughout time. And one of the basic and most useful knots is the bowline knot. My name is Robert Segundo and I'm going to teach you how to do the bowline knot. If you'll look down here at the table we can see. I have a rope here. I'm going to take my working end here. I'm just going to go ahead and make a little overhand loop in it. Like so. What I'm going to do is I'm going to place this rope over the top of it like so. Or bring this in. And I'm going to go under, over, and back under. What I'm going to do is if you pull these two parts it's going to get a nice, tight bowline know. And this is a loop, and it's not going to slip. And it's going to be very strong and secure. So let's pull this out and we'll do this one more time. We'll do it rather quickly. We're going to make a overhand loop like that. Take your working end and put it right over it. And then bring it under that, under, over, under. Pull it, whoops. Pull it tight, like so. Because if you don't pull it the right way, it won't make your correct knot. There it is. Your bowline knot.
